Research on fabrication of colloidal crystals, due to their optical diffraction and band-gap properties, has attracted considerable interests. Self-assembly of colloidal micro-spheres helps us obtain different structures of colloidal crystals which are arranged in order. The light propagation in the photonic crystal will change according to the structures of the colloidal crystal. Colloidal crystals of different structures and properties can be obtained by different means. The combination of colloidal crystals and composite materials has a very broad field of development in the electro-optical modulator, optical communications, sensing and so on.This paper is mainly for the following two aspects of the research work:(1 fabrication and characterization of monolayer of two-dimensional composite colloidal crystal film based on spin-coating method are investigated. Different from the traditional method of self-assembly, we use silicon as the substrate, and spin coat nano-sized Sol-Gel solution, preparing high-quality, single or double two-dimensional colloidal crystal film. Research of this paper focuses on adjustment of spin speed and the preparation of sol-gel. Spin-coating method is one of the fast and efficient methods for the fabrication of colloidal crystal films, which get a lot of attention.(2)Fabrication and characterization of Sol-Gel co-assembly method for monolayer of two-dimensional composite colloidal crystal films are investigated. We use the sol-gel as the solvent of evaporation, and the PS micro-spheres as self-assembled materials. Quality of colloidal films grown on a glass substrate is studied. Experiments focus on factors which have effects on the quality of the film, such as the ratio of PS microsphere solution and the TEOS gel solution, experimental temperature and other outside factors that can not be ignored. Through observations of macro-topography and SEM micro-topography, the causes of multiple layers, cracks and other defects in the experiments are analyzed. In addition, solutions to these problems are proposed.This article was prepared two-dimensional colloidal crystal composite (composite nanosphere arrays) can be prepared by a variety of morphologies dimensional periodic structure as a template. These structures have the potential to form a negative refractive index materials or for the production of nano-lasers and nanoparticles trap. Therefore, research involved in this paper has important research value.
