Polypropylene?PP?is one of the most widespread synthetic fibers.Owing to its good mechanical strength,low density,chemical resistance,thermal stability,and low cost,PP is widely used in textile and filtration industries.Unfortunately,inherent hydrophobicity and radiation degradation of PP limit its use in hypaethral applications.In recent years,the dopamine has been drawing much attention for its mild reaction conditions and the strong adhesion ability to various materials.Dopamine could oxidative polymerization and firmly adhereding to the polypropylene fiber surface,forming the polydopamine layer.After characterization,the hydrophilicity of modified fibers improved significantly with no decrease in mechanical properties.In this paper,the catechol groups on PDA reduced the titanium dioxide?TiO2?molecules which were formed by the hydrolysis of?NH4?2TiF6,fixing on the fiber surface and forming a TiO2 coating.The results showed that PDA and TiO2 were successfully deposited on the fiber surface,and the thermal stability of the modified fiber was improved.Moreover,in comparasion with the pristein PP fiber,the UV protection property of PP-PDA-TiO2-12h fibers increased about 250 fold with no change in mechanical property.On the other hand,the chitosan?CS?was grafted to PDA through the Michael addition or Schiff base reaction,endowing the positive charge to the substrate surface.Subsequently,the graphene oxide?GO?and CS were used as poly anionic and poly cationic and alternatively deposited on the substrate surface via layer-by-layer electrostatic self-assembly.Finally,the PP nonwoven fabrics achieved the properties to resist the UV rays.The results showed that the GO and CS were successfully assembled on the substrate surface,and the thermal stability of the modified fiber was improved.Furthermore,in comparasion with the pristein PP,the UV protection property of?GO/CS?10 sample increased about 500 fold with no significant change in mechanical property.
