In order to investigate the characteristic of gelled kerosene's secondary atomization,an experiment was conducted to research the breakup of gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets in the uniform air jet flow.(1)The experimental facilities were designed and the high-speed camera was applied to record the breakup of a droplet.Three samples of gelled kerosene were made and each of them has different content of SiO2.The physical property parameters of these samples were measured. The experiment were conducted at different conditions to research the breakup process of gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets in the air flow.(2)Based on the experimental results, the properties of transformation and motion of gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets are studied, the comparison of the experiment results between gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets is conducted.Including the research of morphology of droplets, transition We,the impact of gas velocity on the transformation of a droplet, the impact of We on the maximum dimensionless diameter deformation ratio a droplet, the impact of gas velocity on the motion of a droplet, etc.Correlations for gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets were proposed to predict the impact of We on the maximum dimensionless diameter deformation ratio.(3)The breakup of gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets are studied.By processing the experiment results, statistics of the breakup time, the shear-stripping speed and the wavelength of Rayleigh-Taylor(R-T)instability waves were conducted, the impact of We and Oh on the initial breakup time and total breakup time of gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets is studied, the impact of We on the shear-stripping speed is investigated, the R-T instability which appears in the catastrophic breakup mode is studied, and also the comparison analysis between gelled kerosene and kerosene droplets is conducted.
