Paddy ridger is a kind of field-clearing machine,whose main function is to divide fields into several pieces through building or repairing ridges.One of the advantages is convenient to monitor the growth of rice.On the other hand,it is good to water fixation,which keeps the soil wet to ensure the sturdy growth of rice.Nowadays,the development of paddy ridgers has become a weak link of paddy field tillage machinery industry in our country.So far,artificial ridging method is still widely used in many areas,which leads a labour-intensive,inefficient and poor qualified job.The rice planting pattern is changing from small pieces to large ones,from family unit to farm mode,which makes artificial ridging inappropriate to today's development model companying with the increasing labor costs.To solve the problem,a new kind of efficient ridger to replace artificial ridging is desire to be designed,which helps realize the mechanization of high qualified paddy field ridge building.This paper compared the advantages and disadvantages of all kinds of ridgers at home and abroad,then innovatively designed a new type of paddy ridger according to the intermediate screw ridging process.The working principles of double helix ridger were researched and a new structure of ridger was designed.The consumed power of this machine was theoretically calculated to be 27.9kw/h.The drive system of this ridger was designed,basing on the tooth chain combination way,which meant gear drive way was used during rotary tillage process and chain drive way was changed to when compacting machine worked.Integral frame structure matching the ridger was designed,which used hinge structure to connect front and back frameworks to ensure the back framework turning around the front one.The force of hydraulic shaping parts was analyzed and hydraulic boost compacting machine was designed,which ensured the ridges strong,smooth and beautiful built by this kind of ridgers.Model building of frameworks was realized by software CATIA and the built models were imported to Hypermesh to be analyzed through finite element simulation.The first 16 order constraint modes of ridger frameworks was acquired and the results showed:natural frequency of frameworks was far lower than the motion frequency of knife shaft,no resonance phenomenon would come out.Field experiments were carried out to test the working properties of this machine and the results showed:the appearance of ridges built by designed ridger were smooth and beautiful,meanwhile,the appearance sizes reached design expectations and the density of ridges met agronomic requirements.Ridge qualities were observed at different machine working rates and the results showed:accompanying with the increase of speed,no obvious change was illustrated on ridge appearance but the density of ridges become lower.
