This dissertation consists of four chapters. The first chapter reported the chemical constituents from Pittosporum medicinal plants of Yunnan-- Pittosporum kerrii Craib. The second chapter and the third chapter described the isolation and identification of coumarins analogues of Peucedanum praeruptorum Dunn and Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels respectively. In the fourth chapter, the compounds isolated from the Pittosporum medicinal plants were summarized. From the mentioned three medicinal plants above,17 compounds were purified and identified on the basis of spectral evidences, which concerned sesquiterpene, triterpene saponin, steroid, aromatic compound, coumarins including simple coumarin, linear furan coumarin.Chapter 1. Studies on the Chemical Constituents of Pittosporum kerrii CraibPittosporum kerrii Craib is distributed in southeast and southwest of Yunan Province, or in Thailand and Myanmar. Results of chemical study indicated that this plant was rich triterpenoid saponin, which revealed possess various biological activities such as expelling wind to resolve the exterior and antimalarial effects. In order to search bio-active substances from this plant, we phytochemically investigated the bark of P. kerrii Craib collected in Yuxi prefecture of Yunnan. In the methanol extract of Pittosporum kerrii Craib, five compounds was isolated including a new sesquiterpenes.Chapter 2. Studies on the Chemical Constituents of Peucedanum praeruptorum DunnPeucedanum praeruptorum Dunn is a perennial plant. It also comprises high amounts of biologically active coumarins. In the course of searching bioactive constituents, three compounds were isolated and identified from this species, including two furanocoumarin derivatives.Chapter 3. Studies on the Chemical Constituents of Angelica apaensis (Oliv.) DielsAngelica apaensis (Oliv.) Diels, which belongs to the family Umbelliferae, is a perennial herb widely distributed in the northeast of Yunnan, China. The roots of this plant have been used extensively as folk medicines to treat cough, asthma, wind colic, tympanites and flatulency. With an aim to access bioactive constituents from this plant, the present study on A. apaensis, which was collected in Qiaojia County of Yunnan Province, China, afforded nine compounds, including seven coumarin derivatives.Chapter 4. ReviewThis part summarizes the chemical constituents and their biological activities from Pittosporum genus medicinal plants.
