ObjectiveTo explore the content relating to excessive syndromes and deficient syndromes in the traditional Chinese medicine theory; to summarized the recent research achievements in order to further enrich the research on Chinese medicine syndrome biology; to compare and study the metabolism signature of excessive syndromes and deficient syndromes to provide evidence of molecular biology for the research in this area.Methods1. The clinical documents show:collect demographic data, current medical histories, TCM four diagnostic information and diagnosis of 38 healthy undergraduate students to distinguish the nature of syndromes.2. Study on plasma metabolism group:drawing 5 ml venous blood from 38 healthy people at 8 am and 8 pm separately and conducting study on the lipid metabolism profiling to seek the signature metabolism group which is related to syndromes as the biological basis of excessive and deficient syndrome distinction.ResultsThe study on the clinical documents shows:12 males and 26 females; among whom,4 males and 9 females are in the mild syndrome group; one male and 11 females in the excessive syndrome group, and 7 males and 6 females in the deficient syndrome group. The age range of these undergraduate students is between 21 and 23. The statistics of the healthy people show there are differences in the following symptoms:easy to get tired (2 excessive syndromes,5 deficient syndromes), epigastric and abdominal distension (5 excessive syndromes,1 deficient syndrome), not resistant to cold and hotness (2 excessive syndromes,4 deficient syndromes), easy to snivel (1 excessive syndrome,4 deficient syndromes), easy to have acne (7 excessive syndromes,4 mild syndromes,1 deficient syndrome), having a sticky mouth (5 excessive syndromes,1 deficient syndrome), having a shining dirty face or a greasy nose (11 excessive syndromes,5 mild syndrome and 6 deficient syndromes), having moist face and skin (7 excessive syndromes,13 mild syndromes and 9 deficient syndromes).2. The result of study on the plasma metabolism group:A M:the analysis of differences of the plasma test results between people with excessive syndromes and people with mild syndromes shows that there are totally 22 differences in above indicators, among which 20 demonstrating an increase,2 demonstrating a decrease. The analysis of differences of the plasma test results between people with deficient syndromes and people with mild syndromes shows that there are totally 88 differences in above indicators, among which 75 demonstrating an increase,13 demonstrating a decrease. The analysis of differences of the plasma test results between people with excessive syndromes and people with deficient syndromes shows that there are totally 9 differences in above indicators, among which 8 demonstrating an increase, 1 demonstrating a decrease. PM:the analysis of differences of the plasma test results between people with excessive syndromes and people with mild syndromes shows that there are totally 39 differences in above indicators, among which 10 demonstrating an increase,29 demonstrating a decrease. The analysis of differences of the plasma test results between people with deficient syndromes and people with mild syndromes shows that there are totally 84 differences in above indicators, among which 82 demonstrating an increase,2 demonstrating a decrease.ConclusionThe differences of plasma metabolism profiling can evidently distinguish people with excessive syndromes, deficient syndromes and healthy people. The metabonomics method is of great value in the study of the influence of midnight-noon and ebb-flow theory on the deficient and excessive syndromes.
