The Woman Warrior(1976) and China Men(1980), two famous novels written by Chinese American author Maxine Hong Kingston, record the Chinese American's living conditions in a unique view for about one hundred years. Facing the oppression from the western society, race and American mainstream culture, the ethnic Chinese go through a tortuous road. They question and affirm their self-identity toward growth. In synchronic level, the characters are divided into paternal and maternal figures, which aims to appear paternal ethnic ancestors'epic growth history and maternal growth and anti-growth mentality in survive. In the diachronic level, the characters are divided into first generation and the new generation, which aims to display the process they integrate into the mainstream culture.Taking the view of initiation, this paper analyzes the two works above mentioned to reproduce Ethnic Chinese struggle history; to show how they break silence and refuse to be marginalized, to find out their growth trajectory between the Chinese and American culture, to illustrate the process of Kingston's identity construction as a narrator.
