In the long history of Chinese civilization, Guzheng along with Zheng music has become one of the most important medium of carrying, inheriting and promoting traditional Chinese art. This thesis divides Yun of Zheng, the soul of traditional Zheng music, into two parts: Yun of Zheng performance, and Yun of Zheng culture. Through the pattern analysis of Yun, this thesis tries to explore the aesthetics and charms of traditional Chinese art, so as to trace the source of Zheng's vitality as a traditional Chinese musical instrument. In this thesis, Yun of Zheng performance is mainly investigated from two aspects: Point Yun and Line Yun, which are critically carried out by the modality of performers, so this thesis argues that the willness of performers is the necessary precondition of Yun's expression during a performance. The exploration of the Yun of Zheng culture mainly lies in the aesthetic patterns of Zheng, and this thesis considers three classical aesthetics of China – utmost rightness, artistic conception and sorrow advocating – as the indispensible cultural nutrition of Zheng art.
