If we discuss by starting from two characteristics of the artwork itself,"formal" and"conceptual",we would find that any piece of artwork no matter for painting, sculpture,or installation, there exists the duality,i.e.the form and concept it has embodied.Early artworks have usually been researched from its form and concept. But after the uprising of conceptual art in 1960s,the "formal" property in the artwork has been directly regarded as the "concept".At this time the concept of the artwork is the form of itself. For a long time the material has been embodied by acting as the representation of an artwork's external form. However, when art has developed into the concept level, its philosophical system has become the hard core, which supports it.The external material as the content for artwork analysis has seemingly become dispensable. That is to say,the significance of itselfbeing a kind of material has been cleared up.When art has gradually developed into the present stage, what kind of materials needed for the artwork creation seems to be aquestion, which is relevant with the concept and asks for a artist to think about. This problem has ultimately led to the disappearance of materials.Once the formal expression of an artwork is regarded as its concept,it seems that materials to shape this artistic work are not that important.Even for some existing objects such as mountains, rivers, and ready-made objects have been once considered as the artwork itself. This article hopes to elaborate the transitional process of "vibrating" and "flowing" from formal to conceptual by taking advantage of sculptures' development track in art history to present the form of"vibrating" and "flowing".
