This paper aims to discuss the coloring skills based on author's bird-and-flower painting practice combined with Chinese and western art traditions and academic training through the learning process.The paper regards song dynasty as entry point due to its great prosperity in bird-and-flower painting.In this period,fine-brush bird-and-flower painting's coloring skill had its unique charm influenced by traditional Chinese culture.At the same time,this paper is going to carry out the value of skills to the painter through the discussion of painting history and painting theory by the ancients combined with the mount experience nowadays.
