Irony And Appropriation: The Interpretation Of Mark Tanxi's Oil Painting Works And Its Enlightenment In Writing

This thesis interprets some representative works of Mark Tansey,an American visual artist,to make a analysis of the image significance of his oil painting works.It focus on the“Appropriation”artistic language and distinctive ironic significance which are frequently used in his works.In the meantime of probing into the image significance of oil paintings from Mark Tansey,the thesis is also trying to learn from his creation way to deal with the dilemma and bewilderment that the realistic oilpainting is facing in the image era of today.It probes about exploring another way and possibility for rational use of image in the oil painting creation through a proper use of Post-modern artistic language.This thesis is divided into three chapters.Chapter one,carding status quo of oil painting art in the image era;Chapter two,introduces the life story and social influence of Conceptualism artist Mark Tansey concretely analyses the appropriation artistic language and ironic significance of representative works of Mark Tansey;Chapter three,combined with comtemporary Chinese oil painter and the author in the creation of appropriation and irony,concluded through a proper use of Post-modern artistic language to explore another way and possibility for rational use of image in the oil painting creation.The three chapters constitute the main body of this thesis.Through the above research,the author concluded that :under the backgroud that contemporary art are on diversified evolution and development of today,artists can learn from some artistic language of postmodern art in their usual artisitic creation.It is necessary not only absorbing the essence of traditional art but also keeping pace with the times which means artists should not ?copy?mechanically the western modern art theory and need to be rooted in the spiritual pursuit of the own national real life to depict their own unique and noble artistic personality in the artistic creation.At the same time,we can also learn from the appropriation and irony in the works of Mark Tansey to explore the new artistic language and expression ways in the creation.
