Research On Novel Props In Jin Ping Mei And Dream Of The Red Chamber

Props are not only frequently seen in drama and film performances,but are also widely used in the fictions of the Ming and Qing dynasty.props become the necessary elements for the success of one work.A masterpiece will certainly include the exquisite exhibition of props to guide and support the plot line;without props,the arrangement of some key plots and the description of characters will become impossible.Therefore,with the masterpieces of The Golden Lotus and Dream of Red Mansions as examples,this paper tries to analyze the use of props in realistic fictions,and their types,writing techniques and the culture they represent,in order to illustrate an overall picture of the use of props in fictions.The main content of this paper is divided into five chapters.The introduction mainly explains the reasons for choosing this topic,and the study significance thereof.I also summarize the current situation of props study,and point out the various deficiencies of many researchers.Finally,I describe the research methods used in the writing of this paper.The first chapter is mainly about props,including the definition,characterastic and classification.I also analyze and summarize the important props in The Golden Lotus and Dream of Red Mansions in detail.The second chapter mainly discusses the meaning of the texts of the two books,and carefully analyzes the functions of props in certain situations through the structure of style,description of characters and ups and downs of plot.The third chapter analyzes the significance of props from a deeper aspect.This chapter gives an in-depth exploration to the props appeared in The Golden Lotus and Dream of Red Mansions from the political,economic and cultural connotations,to grasp the reveal and sarcasm to the feudal social lives.The fourth chapter compared the props used by the two masterpieces,and simply analyzed the similarities and differences,including indoor furnishings,lost items,children's education,funeral etiquettes and other aspects,which can show that Dream of Red Mansions is indeed inherited from The Golden Lotus in some aspects,and at the same time has its own style through innovative development,which gives it a more brilliant artistic effect.Finally,this paper summarizes the many problems existed in this paper,and lists the props used by the two books in the attached tables.
