Weijie Gao was one of the famous composers in China, especially outstanding in the national field of music creation. His creations were mainly based on Chinese traditional and national music culture, fused with new techniques of modern music creation, to find a new combination of modern and traditional road for the development and exploration of Chinese music. He showed innovative tonal thinking and logical system of personalized pitches in the music creation, but reserved a strong national music culture on the core characteristics and expressional gimmick, not only deeply rooted in the traditional abundance of soil, but also holding the pioneering spirit of keeping pace with the times, reflecting a high degree unity of the inheritance and innovation.Mr. Weijie Gao created "The impression of Baima" for the Chinese traditional and folk instruments Erhu, Zhonghu and Western orchestra in 1991. He extracted the tone elements and core interval relations of baima Tibetan folk songs in that creation.That also ran through the horizontal melody development of the whole composition,longitudinal harmony constitution and relationship of partially musical organization,and penetrated the tonal thinking way of modern music without the tonality, at the same time, integrated into the Chinese traditional melody elements to show a personally unique style and national characteristics.The core of the main pitch was to refine the unique characteristics of the pitch of the Baima Tibetan folk song, and form a new thematic motivation with the particular creative thought of composer. The motivation not only promoted the traditional Chinese culture but also gave the fresh life to the composition. The composer used the developed technique of modern pitch to reveal a novel development way of musical mode with traditional tonal environment. The short refined and developmental core ran through the entire aspects of the whole composition which based on the Chinese tradition and nationality. This composition showed the original rustic life, culture and art vividly with modern view and unique expression method.This research showed the analysis method of traditional music and the analysismethod of modern music to analyze "The impression of Baima" with multivariate techniques and multiple perspectives. And the main points of this research were the music structure, theme and the sound organizational relationships. This thesis consisted of introduction, text, conclusion and references. The introduction discussed the composer, this music, origin and the significance of this topic. It would make the reader understand the composer and "The impression of Baima" better. Chapter one overviewed the background and material source of this composition, divided the musical structure. And it would provide the precondition for future analysis. Chapter two analyzed the pitch techniques, including the thematic motivation, core intervals,materials and the thought of musical mode. Chapter three discussed and analyzed the organization characteristics of polyphony such as harmony, polyphony, persistent voice part and musical texture. Chapter four mainly analyzed the timbre, rhythm and dynamics of this music. This research revealed creation features through these chapters, explored the creation style and creative ideas further. This composition was studied deeply and meticulously, based on the knowledge of music theory, with the help of score and video. It would reflect the characteristics of "The impression of Baima" through the extracting process which from portion to entirety, microcosmic to macroscopic and generality to individuality and promote the understanding of the style and features of Mr Weijie Gao's creation.
