We live in the world of colors. Colors are very closely related to our daily life. Colors not only have visual or emotional impact on our life, but they also serve as a medium for expressing emotions and culture. Colors reflect themselves in a language, as they are a category of abstract symbols. Because of different cultures, religions and history, colors in Polish language and Chinese language reflect their own orientation, customs, religions and other characteristic features of culture.A huge amount of research had been done in the field of color words in China. The research discusses Chinese color words, and also some research contrasts cultural differences of color words between two different countries. Until now, the cultural meaning of Chinese-English color words had been deeply discussed. Apart from this, the study on cultural differences of color words between Chinese-French. Chinese-German and Chinese-Korean had also been conducted, but there is no research on a topic of Chinese-Polish color words. This thesis is supposed to Fill in this research gap. Due to increasing Chinese-Polish cultural exchange and the need for the development in foreign language teaching, the study of cultural meaning of color words is needed and will provide knowledge which will help Polish students in understanding cultural differences between the two countries.The main focus of this paper are basic color words, such as:白 (bialy),黑 (czarny).红 (czerwony), 黄 (zolty), 蓝 (niebieski) and 绿 (zielony). Comparative study is the main approach adopted here. After comparing color words in two languages, the cultural differences between Polish and Chinese language will be pointed out. Additionally.1 will provide some useful suggestion that may be used in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.This paper is divided into five parts:foreword, structure and characteristic features of Chinese-Polish basic color words, comparison of cultural connotations between Chinese-Polish basic color words, reasons for similarities and differences in Chinese-Polish color words as well as, recommendation and analysis of current teaching situation in color words. The first part introduces foreign and Chinese research on the topic of color words, as well as this paper’s objective and methodology. The second part introduces the structure and characteristics of Chinese and Polish color words. It also discusses Chinese-Polish color words structural differences and similarities. In the third part, I use many examples to illustrate the differences between two languages. In the fourth part, I analyze the reasons for similarities and differences in Chinese-Polish color words. The last part serves as an analysis of current situation in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, as well as provides some recommendation regarding color words.
