Alice Munro is a famous female writer. She is regarded as a Canadian Chekhov for her achievements in short story. Euramerican media awarded her as the greatest novelist of the age. She describes a simple and ordinary life and showed the true charm of real life vividly and subtly. Employing the literary theory of Ecofeminism,this dissertation uses text analysis to explore the idea and application of ecofeminism in the novels of Munro based on her nine works.The dissertation includes three parts, which are introduction, the main body and the conclusion.The introduction includes previous research and the objectives,significance and innovation of the thesis.The main body comprises five chapters. In the second chapter, the author briefly introduces the background, status quo and the content of ecofeminism. In the third chapter, the author generalize Munro's eco-feminism and its forms as well as its formation based on feminism and ecology.The natural ecology is concerned with the relationship between man and nature; ecological society is concerned with the relationship between people; spiritual ecology is concerned with the relationship between man and inner self.Based on this theory,in the fourth chapter, the author discusses the relationship between the female and the nature.In the fifth chapter, the author analyses the relationship between the male and the female. Munro explains the low status of the female in the patriarchal society and explores how to build a harmonious gender relationship.In the sixth chapter,the author analyses two states of the female and their ego in Munro's works, which are reason and madness.Oh the whole,the chapters 4-6 are an extension or specifition of chapter 3.In the conclusion, the author summarizes her dissertation. In both Munro's personal experience and her works, she is equipped with eco-feminism consciousness.She explores the relationship between the female and the nature, man and woman, andthe female and their ego, expressing her expectation for an ideal ecological environment and a harmonious society.
