A Comparative Study Of Mencius' Humanity Theory From The Perspective Of Virtue Ethics

Virtue ethics is a combination of moral emotion,moral reason and moral practice,and a unity of the individual good and public good.It emphasizes that the people in the process of growing-up to achieve.In fact,any theory of virtue development behind are involved in the perception of human nature.A lot of the pre-Qin Confucian to carries on the discussion of human nature theory,among them,Mencius’ s theory of virtue and Xunzi’s theory of evil have the largest influence.Facing the complex social phenomena of good and evil,Mencius and Xunzi is very different in the difinition of humanity,in the concrete ways and means of moral cultivation also have very big difference.However,they are opposite in the theory and form,but in the goal of moral cultivation and moral value judgment is the same.In this paper,the comparative study starts from the view of virtue ethics,in which are the four parts of Mencius and Xunzi’s theory of human nature.The first chapter mainly from the perspective of virtue ethics interpretation of Confucian thought,and briefly analyzes the Confucianism which as a kind of moral philosophy and the connection of virtue ethics.then from the Confucius contribution to the theory of human nature and moral ethics,the origins about Mencius and Xunzi’s theory is generalized.Chapter two analyzes the virtue ethics thought of Mencius theory of goodness.First this paper discuses the theory of goodness is the basis and premise of Mencius virtue ethics.Then analyse on the basis of the good people how to achieve the unity of the kindness and good deeds, individual good and public good.Finally this paper discusses the Mencius want people to reach the fulfillment of the moral realm.The third chapter make the theory of Xunzi in evil human nature as a premise,then to discuss how the moral basis be established?How to achievement virtue?What is way ofPeople achievement of virtue?and eventually to achieve what kind of virtue?The fourth chapter first analyzes the core problems of battle over the theory of human nature between the Mencius and Xunzi,and then in the analysis of in the same way about the moral cultivation and moralvalues,the conclusion is brought out,in which the two opposites complement each other.
