Shi Tao occupied the important position in the fields of painting in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. Both his painting skills and traditional theoretical research has a far-reaching influence on later generations.The lifetime of frustrations gave Shi Tao deeper understand of the life and profound insights. Meanwhile, he had learnt a lot from the rich experience of travel. And thoseex- direct influenceon his artistic creation and painting ideas. He proposed the conception of "one stroke", and the art advocates of "late for the new", "using my own methods" and "searching every steeps for sketch". He pushed the traditional Chinese painting ink form to new heights and had great significance for Chinese art history by his practice. Taking advantages of the professional skills of the author, majoring in painting, this article pursues research on the ink form of Shi Tao's paintings, based on the existing literatures and his works of each period.This article firstly gives the overview of Shi Tao's rough life, which makes his Zen thoughts and aesthetic point of view understood. Secondly, according to the experience of Shi Tao, the article briefly summarizes the characteristics of his painting style of each period. Finally, the ink form of "searching all steeps for sketch" has been analyzed and researched specifically, starting with the ink skills like porno, splash and mistake and the painting skills like crack, point and circle. This article aims at making Shi Tao's works and painting ideas understood more profoundly, and paying attention to the theory "learn from the nature", which means that painters should be close to nature, use nature as the driving force behind the creation, learn from the life, emphasize the vitality of art, value on the flavor of life from the ink paintings and enrich one's landscape painting skills constantly.
