About revenge, in ’Human, All to human’, Nietzsche has said that "to have a revengeful thought and to carry it into effect is to have a violent attack of fever, which passes off, however,-but to have a revengeful thought without the strength and courage to carry it out is a chronic disease, a poisoning of body and soul which we have to bear about with us"To put it simple, the desire to revenge is always harmful which should be overcome and prudently thought. In fact, the practice of revenge is an irrational impulse which does harm to human’s mind. This extreme act done by individual even all human beings should be controlled and eradicated. It will bring certain damage to people’s living environment as well as the threat to individual phycology. In current society where it becomes more rational and legal, the revenge itself will get punished because of its extreme dangerous. The thing we should emphasize is that revenge is not about social justice and equality. Laws that protect social justice and penalize the criminals and countries that take the revenge due to invasion by different race are not included in the revenge we discuss here. In this essay, the revenge mainly focuses on individual, like the revenge incepted in selfish and stupid mentality, and people are used to brutal and absurd ways which chip away from the laws and regulations and bring threat to human’s health and living environment.The reason why Yuhua wrote revenge is in fact to retrospect culture, review human’s nature and criticize revenge. Furthermore, it also contains his emphasis on narration. It is much easier to gain people’s attention when telling about the extreme event, extreme mind and extreme culture which full of dramatic and legendary characteristics.From the point of criticize, Yuhua wrote a series of revenge stories. In his novels, the brutality and absurdism have been elaborated from different angles and showed the ruthless persecution by revenge. It not only describes the revengers’resistance and reluctance to show the absurdism of the revenge and constrain to individual freedom, but also tells the violence among brothers to show how it makes innocent people hurt.There are several reasons why the revenge repeats again and again. Firstly, it comes from man’s instinct. When individual or their groups get hurt, they will have the impulse to take the revenge subconsciously. However, the most important fact lies in the tacit permit to take the revenge to a certain extent in our traditional culture, and the encouragement to the revenger based on the despise to people’s life. Traditional blood relation has made family members take the responsibility passively and their personal will has been covered. While the ghost culture has promoted this idea into an extreme circumstance that the end of life cannot stop the step of revenge. What is more, the Confucius culture has the most significant influence, and it also takes revenge as an ethical behaviour "sacrifice oneself for a noble cause", which lets revengeful thinking as a stiff belief and imparts violence justice and validity from moral side.Yuhua also has deep understanding about revenge. People are used to taking revenge by extreme violence which brings severe harm. The theme of revenge criticizes this brutal deeds and displays its evil and ugly nature. It also has a deep review about history, reality and human nature, which has searched for the irrational and brutal fact about history, showing their current form and the hideous part in human. His writing about revenge is from the experience of himself as well as the influence of revenge literature. Especially about the narration of revenge, it always has the legendary and drama effect. Besides, the theme also has aesthetic purport which shares similarities with Pioneer literature, to display the aesthetics characteristics about ugly, tragic and absurd features and the absurd living condition about human.In conclusion, by depicting revenge to review history and question tradition, Yuhua’s novels have a positive impact on contemporary literature. He puts his effort and wisdom into digging those reality that we do not know or neglect, and this definitely demands hard work. Yuhua is brave to confront and write, which has enriched the ideological content of contemporary fiction.
