Revenge is not only a phenomenon of life and society, but also of culture. It is popular theme in literature, which has a deep relationship with Western drama and Chinese traditional Opera as well. However, up to now, there is still no monograph which compares this theme in Western drama with that of Chinese traditional opera.In view of this,this thesis tries to make a comprehensively comparative study about their nature as well as their esthetical appreciation after the grasping of their difference. and make a tentative examine about their difference of society and culture,which based on clear under standing about the different performing of revenge theme.this study includes:the difference of racial structure, of initiative culture and individualism and inertial culture and collectivism, of joy-oriental culture and sin-oriental culture.
