"White Deer" Guanzhong Dialect Research

The final masterpiece of Mr Chen Zhongshi (Shanxi writer) which named "BaiLuYuan" achieved much attentions of various field for a long time. That is truly one of the peaks in Chinese contemporary literature. In 1998, "BaiLuYuan" won the fourth MaoDun literature award and established the landmark position in Chinese contemporary literature history. The rich connotations of "BaiLuYuan" include ideological, cultural, political, ethical, social history, local conditions and customs and so on besides mature artistic skills, such as novel structure, narrative methods and language use, etc., that really worthy of comment and study. Since the publication of the "BaiLuYuan", many papers have been made to study the production of the writer. These studies and evaluations was focused on cultural studies, social folk custom research, women's studies, comparative literature research and the study of text theme or connotation, which have significant reference value in the research of "BaiLuYuan". But on the whole, it is fewer to study begin with the perspective of language.For the language of "BaiLuYuan", it still lack ofin-depth and detailed study and much fewer research in dialect vocabulary.Language is the carrier of culture, as the carrier of regional culture, dialect adhere to the historical and cultural connotations in specific region and reflect the unique local conditions and customs. Based on the research achievement in academic world which about "BaiLuYuan", this article select the dialect vocabulary which in novel as the research object, and try to study begin with the complicated relationship between the author and the dialect in central Shaanxi area besides the novel and the dialect, to investigate the deep cultural connotations of the dialect in central Shaanxi area of "BaiLuYuan".First of all, the thesis inspects the relationship between the writer and the dialect of central Shaanxi area. The dialect in central Shaanxi has a long history, which is the lineal descendant of "YA YAN" in western Zhou dynasty; it has important reference value to explore the cultural history of central Shaanxi areas. Mr Chen Zhongshicombines the formal narrative languages and the dialect in central Shaanxi areasperfectly with narrative type, dialect not only used in people's language, but also infiltrated in the novel narrative language.Secondly, discussion has been madeabout the regional culture characteristics in central Shaanxi area which present from the dialect of the novel. As one of the most representative writers of Shaanxi writers, a strong regional color has been presented in Chen Zhongshi'snovel. He is good at using the people's original words in central Shanxi region to show the folk life and customs of production and life, which make the cultural connotations of area shown in the language of the novel deeply. In this article, the dialect vocabulary referred has been classified according to the characteristic or property of a certain word, and detailing according to the function to reveal the unique expression of dialect vocabulary in novel.Thirdly, based on "BaiLuYuan", this paper expounded the historical and cultural characteristics of primitive simplicity which shown from dialect vocabulary of central Shaanxi area. The historical and cultural accumulation in this area is profound, and lots of ancient usage was remained in dialect. Many dialectvocabularies seemsvulgarity, but mostly comes from ancient texts, they are truly living fossil of ancient Chinese which remain in modern spoken Chinese of central Shanxi area. Among them, some words have the same meaning between the dialects and modern Chinese common language, which both inherit ancient words. On contrary, some of them have a particular development path in semantic system of the dialect, which has a different meaning from common language semantics.In this article, a large number of dialect words in central Shanxi area was conclude and begin with the elucidation of language examples in novel. Based on dialect words of the text, this paper explore the characteristic and the culture significance which the novel derived and expect a new breakthrough in the study of "BaiLuYuan". The research of "BaiLuYuan" which from the perspective of linguistics and lexicology is helpful to understand the relationship between language and folk culture, what is more, a new train of thought is provide for scholars to research future novel language.
