With the development of the society and the progress of human civilization, the globalization of world expands unceasingly, and the interpersonal communication are becoming more and more frequent and civilized, which makes the use of euphemism become more and more extensive in cross-cultural communication, and the cultural study of euphemism has became a hot spot both at home and abroad, which causes widespread concern. However, although there are many related research results about the cultural contrast of Chinese and English euphemism at home and abroad currently, the study is relatively less from the perspective of "physiological phenomenon", and the influence of cultural differences on intercultural communication is also relatively lacking. Based on the above reasons, the author makes a comparative study on cultural connotation from the perspective of "physiological phenomenon". The author hope that it can deepen understanding of Chinese and Western culture and analysis the influence of cultural differences on intercultural communication through this research, which achieves the goal of cross-cultural communication harmoniously and effectively. This article is divided into six parts as following.The first part is the introduction, which gives a review on the research background and research significance of this thesis.The second part is the summary of euphemism, which includes the related concept, the relevant theoretical foundation and the relationship among euphemism, culture and cross-cultural communication.The third part discusses the cultural differences of Chinese and English euphemism in terms of "physiological phenomenon" through the case analysis. The author summarizes the five aspects of Chinese and English euphemism:"birth", "old", "disease", "death" and "excretion".The fourth part analyzes the reasons of cultural differences of Chinese and English euphemism in the aspect of "physiological phenomenon". The author analyzes the reasons from the following aspects:the historical development, geographical environment, the cultural psychological.The fifth part mainly elaborates the effects of cultural differences of Chinese and English euphemism in the aspect of "physiological phenomenon" in the intercultural communication, which emphasizes the importance of understanding the cultural differences in the intercultural communication based on a series of communication barriers.The final part is the conclusion, which mainly states the research value and the disadvantages of the thesis.
