Three-act drama Teahouse is the immortal masterpiece which created by people's artist Mr.Lao She in 1957.Lao She takes the life of Beijing residents as the theme,presents readers the life of "little guys" in Beijing through dialogues and shows the strong ethnic characteristics and distinctive language.It is one of the Lao She's representative works,and also a successful model in the history of drama in China and even in the world.There are plenty of indirect speech acts in the drama,which is a common way of expression in verbal communication,using indirect speech act for both communicating parties may make the mood euphemistic out of politeness in communication.This paper studies the indirect speech act of Teahouse from the perspective of politeness principle in pragmatics by using the method of exemplification,in order to explore and understand deeply the relationship between politeness and indirect speech acts,so as to deepen the understanding of the nature of communication.Next,it is of great significance to analyze the indirect speech act of Lao She's representative work Teahouse.The study of indirect speech acts from the perspective of politeness principle theory can not only enrich the its theory,verify the relationship between politeness and indirect speech acts,but more importantly,guide people's interpersonal communication and social interaction successfully.
