An Interactive Analysis Of Speech In The "Ordinary World" Under The Principle Of Purpose

The Principle of Goal Direction is a new pragmatic principle,which is proposed by Professor Liao Meizhen,basing on the authentic discourse interaction,and it is used to analyze speech acts and verbal interaction.Meanwhile,he holds the view that the Principle of Goal Direction can also be applied in other institutional and daily discourse analysis.Although the discourse in a TV drama exists in the form of a special speech act,its essence still conforms to the basic features of daily discourse.So this kind of verbal interaction can also be analyzed by combining the method of pragmatics.The thesis makes a tentative attempt to combine the verbal interaction between speakers and hearers in a TV drama and the Principle of Goal Direction.The studying data the author chooses are from the verbal interactions between the speakers and hearers of the award-winning TV drama——The Ordinary World,which is adapted from Lu Yao's homonymic novel.The TV drama reflects an indomitable spirit of the farmers who lived in Northern Shanxi,that is the spirit of keeping their original dreams,and the TV drama also reflects their persistent pursuit of the wonderful lives.The theoretical basis of this thesis is the Principle of Goal Direction proposed by Professor Liao Meizhen,and the author makes analysis of the data from the following five aspects namely the goal relation,goal system,goal and discourse cohesion,the rhetoric in the goal and interaction and the realization of the goal among the vernal interactions of the award-winning TV drama——The Ordinary World.Through the analysis of the data,the author not only certifies that the Principle of Goal Direction can be used to analyze the verbal interaction between the speakers and hearers in the TV drama,but also reaches that among the data in the TV drama——The Ordinary World,the goal relation determines the interaction form,when the speakers and hearers are in different goal relations,the structures of interaction are different,too.The speakers and the hearers will choose the proper goal system to meet the needs of the interactions,when the speakers or speakers who show their general goal first,they will choose the Up-bottom hierarchy of goal,or they will choose the Bottom-up hierarchy of goal,and the speakers and the hearers will often use the main rhetoric to make their goals come true in the TV drama,such as repetition,interruption,interrogation,euphemism and so on.The thesis proves the extensive applicability and strong explanatory power of the Principle of Goal Direction,and provides us with a new perspective to study verbal interaction in the TV drama,and it also guides the speakers and hearers to achieve their communicative goals of verbal interaction better in daily interaction.
