The Semantics Of Discourse Markers In Friends - The Study Of The Meaning Of Pragmatic Interfaces

Discourse markers are a common phenomenon,which has been a matter of concern for many linguists at home and abroad.However,most of the research is related by the perspective of semantics,pragmatics and cognitive linguistics.In recent years,many linguists and scholars focus on the theory of semantics-pragmatics interface meanings.Furthermore,based on the interface meaning theory,some research which combines the meaning theory with discourse markers is a new attempt.Therefore,this paper attempts to analyze the semantics-pragmatics interface meanings of discourse markers from Levinson's three level meanings perspective and tries to analyze the meanings of different types of discourse markers in the factors of semantics and pragmatics.At the same time,the process between semantics and pragmatics provides a new model for the semantics-pragmatics interface meanings of discourse markers.What's more,this paper takes Friends,the famous comedy series,as an example to analyze the meaning of different types of discourse markers.And this paper chooses five factors,including positional relation,normal relations,cognitive environment,the topics and the social relations between participants,to analyze the meaning of discourse markers.Finally,it can be clearly known that the changing process from semantics meaning to pragmatics meanings and the continuum of meaning can be achieved.And it can be found that the interface meaning also exists in the meaning of discourse markers.At the same time,the study on the semantics-pragmatics interface meanings of discourse markers provides some valuable references for English teaching in listening and speaking.
