Motor Imagery,a specific type of mental practice,refer to a mental representation of a movement or action without any corresponding body movement,also known as “mental rehearsal”.It may be classified as visual or kinesthetic,based on the nature of imagers practiced prior to movement performance.It is used to facilitate movement learning and performance in sports and dance,and have demonstrated the positive effects in many practical studies.Motor Imagery,it is now thought,may not only help dancers hone their physical craft but also their psychological states.Dance training traditionally focus on body training,incorporating mental practice normally has been ignored.Therefore,quantitative effects of motor imagery on the performance of dance movements are still largely unknown..This paper begins with a brief introduction of Motor Imagery,including the definition,different type and theoretical support.Next,it describes importance and characteristics of Motor Imagery.Then it detailed how to use it into daily training and what is the best way to let Motor Imagery to be more effective.The paper ends up with a practical study conducted by the author.Motor Imagery can be an effective tool not only to improve movement performance but also students' mental being have been proved.
