Investigation And Study On The Use Of Chinese Language In Xichang City

The standardization and the social use of Chinese and Yi character in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture has produced a marked effect since the Yi writing system fully implemented.The applications of Yi language is using and booming in radio,television,newspapers,periodicals,ancient books,etc.The social service function of Yi language has been continuously strengthened.The popularization and use of Yi language presents a prosperous situation.In recent years,city buses in Xichang have used bilingual broadcast as well as two writing systems' bus station board which promote the use and popularization of Yi language.This is not only for the convenience of the Yi people,but also demonstrates the unique charm of the culture of Xichang and Yi.However,there are many problems that cannot be ignored in the process of promoting bus bilingualism.This paper chooses Xichang as the investigation site which took the lead in the implementation of Yi-Han bilingual bus broadcast and Yi-Han character bus station boards in Sichuan province.Based on collecting relating data through field investigation,this paper connects means of document data,interview,questionnaire and observation,and in the meantime focuses on the analysis of the use of Yi language in Xichang bus stop broadcast and plaque.Furthermore,it attempts to know the attitudes of different groups.And puts forward some practical problems and corresponding solutions in the use of Yi language in bus broadcast and bus station boards.The paper is divided into 4 chapters as follows:The first chapter illustrates the background and significance of the research.It summarizes the relative works of applying canonical Yi language and other languages in public transport systems.Besides,the research contents,methods and concept definitions are also introduced in chapter one.The second chapter introduces the usage of Yi language in bus broadcast and bus station boards in Xichang city.Firstly,it summarizes the development of Yi language in the Xichang's public transportation.Secondly,we introduce the usage of Yi language in bus broadcast and bus station boards.At last,the problem of using Yi language is classified and discussed in detail.In the bus bilingual broadcast,the main problem is the false translation of Yi language and the broadcast equipment failures.In the bus station boards,besides the false translation of Yi language,there are problems of board type,character scale,board making,maintenance and the coverage of using.Based on the questionnaires and interviews of different ranks and classes,the third chapter introduces the opinion of using Yi language in bus broadcasts and bus station boards.The opinion of citizens mainly comes from the analysis of questionnaires results.And the opinion of government officers and Yi language experts come from interviews.The fourth chapter introduces the solution of the problems in the usage of Yi language in bus broadcast and bus station boards.In opinion of the author,efforts from the whole society is required to solve the problems.Firstly,the government has to introduce bilingual policies in bus system and promote financial support.Secondly,language committees,bus companies and the department of transportation have to execute their duties.Thirdly,it is important to promote bilingual education standards and the employment of bilingual graduates.Besides,the author proposes the suggestions of resolving the differences translation between the bus broadcast and the bus station boards,promoting the public attention of bus public signs and providding more Yi language services and public cultural products.
