In today’s era of information explosion,the available time and energy of audience that can be used to obtain information are increasingly scarce,shallow reading is becoming a new trend for audience to get information,and this trend has been corroborated in text reading,according to the investigation results of reading tendency on the media:for the post-50s and post-60s,the book they read are really the books need to read;while for the post-70s and post-80s,2/3 of the book they read are the books;and for thte post-90s,most of the reading is not the real book reading.Now this trend is gradually spread to the direction of painting.This paper reviews in detail the characteristics of reading style in the era of shallow reading and the development history and narrative structure of the picture books,and puts forward that in this shallow reading environment,the narrative structure of illustration and picture books changes,the nonlinear narrative structure illustration and picture books are more conducive for audience to quickly and effectively obtain the picture information,thus get the recognition of the audience.Finally,this paper puts forward the nonlinear narrative structure of picture books in the way of presentation and dissemination are not limited to books and publishing,which should be combined with new media to expand new presentation and achieve the diversification of communication,and this is exact the development direction of picture books in the current environment of shallow reading.
