Rong Gu Kaixin - A Case Of Contemporary Jianchuan Woodcarving Development

Jian Chuan is one of the "Countries of Chinese Folk Woodcarving Art"with a long woodcarving history,there is a good tradition in sculpture skill,theme and form.In the old days,the woodcarving craftsmen from Jian Chuan left their hometown to make a living,they integrated the skills of drawing a rough sketch and making the woodcarving.Since the establishment of the nation,the division of labour in woodcarving industry is becoming clearer,different craftsmen devoted themselves into different fields.This article tries to see the current situation of different kinds of craftsmen and the problems they are facing,through interviewing the rough sketch designer,Wang Kunyong,traditional woodcarving craftsman,Shi Jiashun and his son Shi Binlin,and the craftsman who devotes himself into the individual artistic creation,Yang Chunlong.What is the orientation of Jian Chuan Woodcarving?It is expected that some answers could be found on the basis of summarizing the current situation and problems of Jian Chuan Woodcarving.
