Research On Qi's Foreign Policy During The Spring And Autumn Period

Spring and Autumn Period is extremely important transition period in the process of the history of China civilization,the western Chou dynasty's ruling order gradually collapsed,Chou royal family declined gradually;While princes rose gradually along with the expansion of the power,which gradually went towards the road of independent development.Under the age background of great revolution and turmoil,Princes competed to rise,gradually dominating the development of the history of spring and autumn.Qi,in the troubled times of the spring and autumn,gradually developed into a vassal power,and struggled to rise to great power in period of QiHuangong,accomplishing the dominant of the spring and autumn,but still steadied its own power position after hegemony declined.In the process,we could see without difficulty that,the diplomatic policies that rulers of Qi implemented diagnostically according to the social situation of development of the spring and autumn and Qi's own practical circumstance played a vital role in the ups and downs historical process.Therefore,this thesis launched the research as the center of Qi's diplomatic policies in Spring and Autumn Period.The thesis includes four chapters.The first chapter mainly summarizes historical background about the Qi's diplomatic policies during Spring and Autumn Period,The situation of the spring and autumn changed largely,Chou royal family declining,princes rising,hegemony replacing one by one;Domestic affairs in Qi changed with booms and busts,and Qi existed all along in the stage of history of the spring and autumn with its own power position.The second chapter researches Qi's diplomatic policies during early Spring and Autumn Period,Qi respected son of heaven ? cast out barbarians and followed the Chou rituals,and carried out friendly diplomatic policy where Qi lived in harmony with its neighbors and put into forcible diplomatic policy where Qi went on a punitive expedition with military force,in order to establish foundation of great power.The third chapter researches Qi's diplomatic policies during the period of Qi's hegemony,Qi inherited and developed previous diplomatic policies,and maintained the Chou rituals and inside respected son of heaven to seek hegemony,and stabilized neighbors and outside cast out barbarians to stabilize the central plain of China,and thenimplemented diplomatic policies of hegemony on the basis of it,and revered son of heaven to command princes,and formed prices union headed by Qi,and remodeled new order of spring and autumn.The fourth chapter researches Qi's diplomatic policies during middle and later Spring and Autumn Period.On the one hand,Qi carried out balanced diplomatic policies to mediate between Jin and Chu,which balanced the interest relations among them,and took the initiative in Jin and Chu contending for hegemony;On the other,Qi pushed its diplomatic policy of righteousness outside,and obtained both harmony with the princes and dignity of the power,which held discourse power in the vassal powers,Only so can Qi keep superpower status during middle and later Spring and Autumn Period.
