Study On The Political Functions Of The Spring And Autumn In The Eastern Han Dynasty

Spring and Autumn,an obvious science in the study of Confucian classics in the Han Dynasty,was widely used in all levels of society.The political principles reflected in the Spring and Autumn Annals,generally adhered to the monarchs and ministers,were used as the basis for discussing politics.A large number of content,related to Spring and Autumn Annals was quoted in the Eastern Han Dynasty's imperial edicts and official speeches recorded in the Hou Han Shu,which provided a new perspective for us to understand the role of Spring and Autumn Annals in the political activities of the Eastern Han Dynasty.From the meaning of Spring and Autumn quoted from pre-Qin to Western Han Dynasty works,Spring and Autumn gradually emerged from Spring and Autumn in the sense of pan-historical books.However,the names of the three biographies of the Spring and Autumn have not been completely separated from the Spring and Autumn Annals.They didn't distinguish the Spring and Autumn Annals from the three biographies,and they often called it Spring and Autumn Annals when citing the three biographies.After the development of the pre-Qin and Western Han dynasties,a new characteristic of the meaning of Spring and Autumn in Han Han Shu was presented.When quoting,the scripture and the biography were clearly defined,and the titles of the Spring and Autumn Annals have basically separated.Predecessors labeled "Zhong Ni wrote Spring and Autumn which scared the chaotic thief ".The saying exaggerated the role of Spring and Autumn,however,according to the truth,the Han Dynasty did not regard the Spring and Autumn Annals as an empty theory,but really put the Spring and Autumn Annals into practice.The scripture and justice were supremacy in the Han Dynasty.Through the elaboration of the Confucianism in Han Dynasty and the theory of divination,Spring and autumn with profound political value was more politicized and theological,and became a supreme code,which was used in the field of adjudication and decision.Besides,ministers and confucianists combined the disasters recorded in the Spring and Autumn and reality to advise the monarch and solve the political problems in reality.Spring and Autumn Annals was called as the beginning of rites and righteousness by Si Maqian.In addition to the emphasis on rites by the three biographies and a large number of records related to rites in the spring and autumn Annals,the spring and Autumn Annals were widely used to participate in the discussion of the study of rites such as ancestral temple genealogy,inheritance,abolishment and establishment in the Eastern Han Dynasty.Scholars in the Eastern Han Dynasty had no strict restrictions on the quotation of the spring and autumn Annals.Although Zuo zhuan was not officially recognized,it was a significant symbol of the rise and fall of ancient and modern literature in the Eastern Han Dynasty,and its status was also rising,showing a rising trend.
