Research On Death Narrative In Shi Tuo's Novel Creation

Death is an unavoidable thing to anyone in the world,and that is also an eternal theme for the literary creation,Shituo is so possessed to the writing about death with unique way and story of his own.In the works of Shituo,death is more than some imagery or plot,it bears the narrative function of the novel,and there are his wisdom about the meaning of life,and that's Shituo's thinking about life and survival.This paper starts with a comprehensive analysis about the death in Shituo's works from the perspective of death narrative,sums up the theme and means of artistic expression through the studies about the contents,and summarizes the function and aesthetic value of death in his novels with further details.There are four chapters in the main body of this paper.Chapter 1 is the theme pattern of Shituo's death narrative.Through further research,it comes to there kinds of death narrative:First,it's about accident or homicide,this usually happens to the grassroots people,Shituo criticizes their zombie attitude about lives;second,it's suicide,that usually happens to female and male intellectual,divide suicide into 2 kinds: boldness and cowardice;The third type is natural death,it analyses old men's excessive anxiety when they face dying.Chapter 2 is about the artistic approaches.It conducts research on the artistic approaches of telling stories of death,which were concluded to three parts: First,it is the absurd and contrast,in Shituo's novels reflect the absurdity between characters and plot and compare the corpse of ugliness and the beauty of nature;Second,it is the fantasy representations of the course of death,Shituo fully used his imagination to reproduce the specific process of death,and it compares it to the death fantasy of the pioneer writers;Third,it presents the special attitude in Shitou's production of death,zero opinions and neutral angles leads to the fact that Shituo barely give his comments about characters' death when he creates the death narrative.Chapter 3 is regarding the functions and aesthetic value of Shituo's death narrative.Based on the previous introduction in the former 3 chapters,this chapter discusses the functions and aesthetic value of death narrative in Shituo's novels.First,from the perspective of narratology,it analyses the narrative function at beginning,middle part and the end of Shituo's novel,it puts forward that death is the integral part for jointing in his works.Second,Seen from the angle of tragedy,it discusses the aesthetic value in Shituo's novels,it believes that no matter to die forwhat,survival,dream or love,it doesn't matter it's a death of big-time giant or small potato,all of these bear the nature of deep tragic meaning.In the conclusion,it sorts out the death narrative in Shituo's novels,at the same time,it also expresses that it is a pity there's no successor of the death narrative.In the latest chapter,for one thing,it introduces the mental cause of the death narrative,starting with Shituo himself,this chapter conducts some researches on unique experience over the course of his growing up,introverted personality made him have his own opinions about death when he was at a very young age.For another,this paper analyses the influence to Shituo caused by the spirit of the age,the influence from May Fourth individualism,western literature and philosophy makes Shituo starts to pay attention to the phenomenon of death in the literary creation,and the traditional culture,especially the Taoism cause a great deal of influence to Shituo's death narrative.
