China's film industry becomes more marketed in recent years.The proportion of domestic film box office in total box offices is rising constantly which shows the strength of China's film and cultural industries to the world.But honestly,it exists some hidden worries behind the prosperity of the box office market.The mismatching between the movie reputation and the movie box office have become more and more common and more and more distinct,as a result,the phenomenon of ‘high box office low reputation' and ‘good reputation low box office' has appeared In this paper,the systematic analysis and evaluation of this phenomenon are discussed depending on the specific films.In the introduction,it mainly elaborates the research background and significance of the paper and sums up the existing research status,and makes a definition to the word of mouth,box office and other related concepts.The study of this strange phenomenon can help us to intuitively understand the problems of the film industry,to avoid disadvantages and promote the healthy and sustainable development of China's film industry.In the first chapter,through combing of typical Chinese high box office films and comparing to the low scores reputation of these films,we found that ‘high box office low reputation' movies includes realistic themes films,for example : Tiny Times series,The Breakup Guru,Where are We Going,Dad?,and fantasy themes films,for example : The white haired witch of the moon heaven,chronicles of the ghostly tribe.Those ‘low reputation high box office'films would make some negative effects on our film production,the film audience aesthetic and the whole film market.In the second chapter,through combing of typical Chinese high reputation films and comparing to the low box office of these films,we found that ‘high reputation low box office'movies includes realistic themes films,for example : Mountains may depart,The Coffin in the Mountain,and history/martial arts themes films,for example: The Golden Era,The Assassin.This phenomenon would certainly make these excellent films can not achieve its cultural value and social function,and eventually become a bunch of ‘dead image material',also lead to these strong art attributes film's reproduction more difficult.The third chapter is the analysis of the reasons of ‘high box office low reputation' and ‘good reputation low box office' phenomenon.There are two main reasons:One is that the current Chinese film market gets into a vicious circles of blind pursuit of box office soared,ignore the cultural and artistic attributes of the film itself under the impact of consumer culture.On the other hand,part of the film creators too much emphasis on the commercial value of the film and loss the artistic value and cultural connotations.There are also some film people too much emphasis on personal subjective expression and problem study so that ignore the audience.These two kinds of film creation attitude would hinder Chinese films from prosperous development.Epilogue over-viewed the normative and mature of the current Chinese film market need to be improved.Chinese film people,the Chinese film audience,cultural industry management departments should curb the current domestic film box office and word of mouth upside down strange phenomenon.As long as the parties try together,the films such as Mr.Six,Operation Mekong,these ‘high box office good reputation' films will be more and more and China's film market will certainly develop reasonably,healthily and sustainably.
