New Songs from the Jade Terrace is the oldest collection of poetry followed after Classic of Poetry and Songs of Chu,and it is also the first book in the history of Chinese literature that selected works in accordance with the theme of the subject.Its composition and arrangement highlight the era and editor's conscious,clear poetry and poetry consciousness.However,for a long period of time,New Songs from the Jade Terrace was unappreciated.Compared with Wen Xuan during this period,the research scope of New Songs from the Jade Terrace was very limited,and its research results were few.Since the reform and opening up,the study of New Songs from the Jade Terrace has broken the traditional shackles and become diversified.Though the research results have been quite rich in the past 40 years,it still has some weak research places.After sorting out the existing research results of New Songs from the Jade Terrace,it is found that the study on the tenth volume of short poem was not much.The editor has his own understanding of combining four-sentence pattern of wu yan poems into one volume.Considering this,this paper intends to start from the short poems recorded in Volume 10 of New Songs from the Jade Terrace,and conduct in-depth study on its compilation,text,artistic style and influence.In addition to the introduction,the paper is mainly divided into four parts:The first part is the compilation of New Songs from the Jade Terrace Volume 10.Xu Ling has clearly pointed out the common standards of the book selection in New Songs from the Jade Terrace prologue:compile haunting songs,which are understandable with strong lyricism.While collecting four-sentence pattern of wu yan poems is the unique compiling feature of Volume 10;In the study of structural compiling study of Volume 10 and the analysis of collecting short poem reasons,it is clear that the distinct poetic history and poetic consciousness as well as the evolutions of the short poems are constantly changing.The second part is the textual research on short poems of New Songs from the Jade Terrace.The understanding of New Songs from the Jade Terrace has always been limited to haunting songs.For a long period of time,New Songs from the Jade Terrace was regarded as decadent music and works that corrupt public morals.In fact,there are still a lot of outstanding works in the collection of short poems of Volume 10.After reading the short poems carefully,the short poems will be re-classified:(1)Iove between men and women;(2)wife's miss;(3)abandoned women;(4)portraying person and chanting objects.Despite the concrete analysis of the outstanding works,it reveals the basic appearance of the poems of New Songs from the Jade Terrace.In addition,this lyrical poem applies a lot of imageries,from the natural phenomenon,animals,plants,flowers to boudoir laying,clothing artifacts.These imagesbear the poets' thoughts and feelings and show the beauty of poetry.The third part is the artistic research on short poems of New Songs from the Jade Terrace.Short poems are essentially lyrical poems,and the word "love" is the center of short poem creation.Short poem srecorded in Volume 10 can be broadly divided into two types in the expression of meaning and chanting temperament:one is showing emotion through objects;another is showing emotion through forms.Both of them are not mutually exclusive,and sometimes also appear in the same short poem.In addition,it can be found from the 155 short poems recorded in Volume 10 that the artistic style presented by these words is not merely"erotic",but rather vulgar,elegant and refined,which is clearly shown in evert stages of short poems.The fourth part is the influence research on short poems of New Songs from the Jade Terrace.The development of the poems and the gradual maturity process in the Southern Dynasties can be seen as a part of the process of continuous development until the mature and complete process.The poems of the Southern Dynasties have profound impact on the form of creation,emotional expression,language expression,rhythm and five words quatrains in Tang Dynasty.Furthermore,the short poem recorded in New Songs from the Jade Terrace are true and sincere works,which provides for the later poetry a lot of excellent writing materials and creative flashpoints.
