Wanjialing Campaign Research

The Battle of Wanjialing is a typical warfare Kuomintang had during anti-Japanese war,and is an another glorious victory the Chinese armed forces achieved in the anti-Japanese battlefield following the Battle of the Pingxingguan and Taierzhuang.The Chinese army achieved a major victory in the Battle of Wanjialing and almost wiped out a whole Japanese division.Although finally failing to completely wipe out the Japanese,the flexibility and well-organized features as well as Chinese soldiers' bravery and indomitable spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by the Chinese army in the battle greatly inspired the domestic public's anti-Japanese enthusiasm,and the people's morale upsurged.The Japanese had almost been wiped out,which never happened in the history of modern Japanese army.Ye Ting,a famous general once commented on the Battle of Wanjialing:Wanjialing Victory,saving Hongdu in dying for Jianghan safeguards,established a situation of tripartite confrontation with the Battle of Pingxingguan and Taierzhuang,which will endure forever.However,compared with the best-known Pingxingguan Victory,Taierzhuang Victory,Wanjialing Victory has suffered "snubbed propaganda",for many years which is a real pity.The research of Wanjialing Victory has a great significance for the understanding of the role of the Kuomintang army in the war and the bravery and indomitable fighting spirit of the participated soldiers and officers.This paper is aimed to make a detailed analysis of the Battle of Wanjialing so as to restore this famous battle to its proper historical status.It also has a practical significance that alert future generations not to forget the suffering of Chinese history and vigilance for revealing the numerous crimes committed by the Japanese militarism in China and disclosing domestic revival of militarism in Japan.This paper is divided into five chapters,the first chapter introduces the reasons to choose the topic as well as the significance;and summarizes the issues of domestic and foreign research status in this field that is intended to solve the problem;the second chapter focuses on the battlefield situation before the Battle of Wanjialing;the third chapter briefly explains the external battlefield situation according to the time and space order;the fourth chapter concentrates on the combat situation of the main battlefield of the Battle of Wanjialing;the fifth chapter analyzes the victorious reasons and the great significance of the protracted war against Japan and the the performance of the Sino-Japanese armed forces in the Battle of Wanjialing as well as the respects paid by Japanese descendants to the battlefield.
