With the pace of globalization,China’s education is in line with international standards,and international exchanges have never been extensive.For enhancing international exchanges,the prospectus of universities play an important role in building its images and positions.Therefore,it is of great significance to analyze the discourse features of prospectus from linguistic perspective.Genre and genre analysis have been the focus of linguistic studies,and many genre analysis of discourses are conducted.Related literature shows there is less genre analysis on university prospectus,on higher vocational college prospectus is rarely.This study attempts to analyze the generic features of Chinese higher vocational prospectus,explores its language features and discourse structures,which is helpful got us to understand the university prospectus.Based on genre theory,this study selects 30 prospectus of high vocational colleges in the 2006 High Vocational Colleges List.This genre analysis on high vocational college prospectus utilizes qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze its move structures and lexical features.Findings show that there are seven moves in the prospectus of high vocational colleges,which are Orientation,School Profile,Providing Achievements,External Communication,Leadership Care and Contact Information.External Communication and Leadership Care are optional moves,the rest five moves are obligatory ones.In addition,high vocational colleges prospectus show “promotional” elements.Lexical analysis find that the high frequently used lexical resources are positive adjectives,professional terms and political terms.It is hoped that findings will contribute to the further development of vocational colleges in discourse perspective.
