Based On The Evaluation Theory, The Image Of The Heroine And The Attitude Of Marriage In Wang Gui And Anna

The Appraisal Theory of Linguist Martin is a development and extension of the interpersonal function system in the Systemic Functional Linguistics,aimed at interpreting how people express their interpersonal relations such as attitudes,feelings and positions.The Theory consists of three subsystems: Attitude,Engagement and Graduation,each of them comprising its subsystems at different levels;it can serve as an effective approach to analyzing complicated interpersonal relations in discourses,but the research on the analysis of Chinese literary characters from its perspective is at the beginning stage.With the Chinese novel Gui Wang and Anna by Liuliu as the research material,based on the Theory,the thesis makes an analysis of the heroine?s image and marital attitude to do some practical research in exploring its application to such discourses.To begin with,the thesis introduces its research background,purposes and significance,then gives a whole picture of the studies and applications of the Theory at home and abroad,and presents a detailed introduction of the studies on the main characters of the novel.Afterwards,the Theory is explicated in full and its subsystems in detail.Finally,the three subsystems of the Theory are employed to analyze the interpersonal resources of the heroine?s image and attitude to marriage,offering a brand-new linguistic perspective of helping readers understand the heroine and novel deeply and better,giving an analysis of the characteristics of the writer?s words creating interpersonal meaning and exploring the practical effects of analyzing Chinese literary characters through the Theory,based on Chinese words.
