Concept: Losing a loved one(relatives, companions, friends etc.)may cause tremendous sorrow.Bereavement will interfere with the previous assumptions of the bereaved.and may even subvert the original understanding of themselves, others or the world, and eliminate part of the previous meaning system.Under the influence of Chinese traditional culture, talking about "death" has always been a taboo. It will also immerse the bereaved into an isolated abyss of grief. However, death can not really cut off the attachment of the living to the deseased, and maintaining the Continuing Bonds with the deseased is an important content and phenomenon in the process of grief.Method: On the basis of a summary of the theoretical and empirical studies of Continuing Bonds,Prolonged Grief and Meaning Construction, this study revised the “the Integration of Stressful Life EXperience Scale”(ISLES)in 168 samples with bereavement eXperience. The revised questionnaire verified the two-dimensional structure of the original scale, which was in line with the requirements of psychometrics. In the follow-up study.Using the Chinese version of the Continuing Bonds Scale and the Revised Edition of the Inventory of Complicated Grief questionnaire,446 bereavement samples in China and the present situation of the degree of prolonged grief, and the effects of some common demographic variables and bereavement related variables on the Continuing Bonds and the prolonged grief reaction were investigated. It reveals the status quo of mourning and provides reference for the study of bereavement in China. The conclusions are as follows:(1)There are significant differences of Continuing Bonds in different demography variables, such as the type of relationship between the bereaved and the deceased, the degree of intimacy, the age of the deseased, the cause of death and the emotional / social withdrawal.(2)There are significant differences of Prolonged Grief reactions in different demography variables, such as the gender of the bereaved, the marital status, the gender of the deceased, the predicability of the death, the type of relationship between the bereaved and the deceased, the degree of intimacy, the age of the deceased, the cause of death, the length of bereavement, and the emotional / social withdrawal.(3)Significant differences of Meaning Construction also exist in different demographic variables, such as the gender of the bereaved, the religious belief, the degree of education, the predicability of the death, the type of relationship between the bereaved and the deceased, the degree of intimacy, the age of the deceased, the cause of death, and emotionally / socially withdrawl.(4)Continuing Bonds has a significant positive effect on Prolonged Gief,Meaning Construction has a significant negative effect on Prolongs Grief. There are significant correlations among Continuing Bonds,Meaning Construction and Prolonged Grief.(5)Meaning Construction has a partial mediating effect between Continuing Bonds and Prolonged Grief.
