Since invented,photograph had been treated as the artistic symbol of objectiveness and reality for a long time till photomontage broke this "fact".Photomontage purposefully creates new contexts,messages or meanings by combining the independent individual images with various techniques.From a historical point of view the birth of photomontage had an apparent linkage with the ideological conflicts.As a result,photomontage reached its peak during the World War I and World War II,and represented the social conflicts,reforms,and revolutions without any reservation.Therefore,we proposed to attach photomontage with social contexts,and deeply discuss the reasons why photomontage has been tightly linked with ideology,and how photomontage started to commercialize.
