Euronews Website's Framework Study On Hong Kong's "Occupy" Incident Report

The 2014 Chinese Hong Kong Protests, began in September 2014 when activists in Chinese Hong Kong protested outside the Chinese Hong Kong Government headquarters and occupied several major city intersections after China's Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPCSC) announced its decision on proposed electoral reform. It's the biggest and longest protest activities after Chinese Hong Kong came back to China. Many foreign Medias covered this event, as different ideology and political stands, their news passages are quite different from Chinese media's.As the only Multilanguage media platform in Europe, Euronews paid many attentions on the Hong Kong Protests. This article selected 54 reports from Euronews website as samples, which were reported between 2014 September 22th and December 15th, and related to the Hong kong Protests.In this article, the research object is Euronews website, the main research samples are those 54 reports, and the main research methods are framework analysis and literature. According to this event's specific category, and made analysis based on the titles, angles, layouts and so on, it had got a series of related data. After that, use the framework theory, study on the Hong Kong Protests coverage in Euronews website, then it could summer up how Euronews construct this news fact, what's the characteristics, and the reasons behind it. Use this significant political event as an example, discuss and analyze how could current European media or even the whole western media think about Chinese political problems, such as "one nation, two systems" policy, it's this article's significance and starting point.There are three main questions we could answer in this research. During the Hong Kong Protests, how did the Euronews website report this event? Through those reports, whether we could summer up what are the framework's characteristics in Euronews online coverage? If we could, then what's the reason behind these characteristics? According to the research needs, we will make the news text structure as a measurement. classify the samples as high, medium and low three levels, and work on their details at the same time.This paper consists of five parts. The first part is an introduction, including research background, purpose, research methods, object and sample. The second part is Euronews website framework analysis to the Hong Kong Protests which is based on the thematic, structural and discourse framework, comparing with the framework's high, medium and low three levels. The third part is "no frameworks is also a framework", it analyses the "NO COMMENT" channel in Euronews website, to make a conclusion about what its frame about Hong Kong Protests. The fourth part is the features of the news frame in Euronews website when reported on the Hong Kong Protests, and discussion of the reasons. And the fifth part is the thinking and discussion.
