Evaluation Of The UN Global Compact

The United Nations global compact was produced in 1995,the United Nations general secretary kofi annan put forward the proposal of the "global compact" in the world conference on development.In order to deal with all kinds of negative problems appeared in the process of globalization and maximizes the power of the international actors such as multinational corporations,this voluntary initiative dominated by the United Nations was set up to standardize the behavior of multinational enterprises' transnational operations.It is a policy platform and practical framework for transnational enterprises,which can also help to build up partnerships between enterprises and United Nations' agencies,the international labor organization,non-governmental organizations and other relevant parties.This article will introduce the background of the global compact and the main content ?key principles of it on the basis of the analysis of its operation framework and the governance framework.At the same time,this article also discussed the influences of the global compact from three perspective : enterprise practices,business-running environment and the world mainstream values.Finally,the article analyzed some advantages and controversies of the global compact.The Global Compact's ten principles are aimed at four fields: environment,human rights,Labour and anti-corruption as the core content.The global compact office,council of the global compact and the global compact foundation are united as the main construction of organization.About the implementation mechanism of global compact,in the enterprise practice level,this article selects two initiatives to study: the “CEO Water Mandate” and “Caring for Climate “.The practice of APP(China)is also analyzed.At the end of the article is the evaluation of the global compact.Promoting the formation and propagation of international norms,shaping the key areas of the global agenda and innovating the mode of international cooperation are four advantages of the Global Compact.Finally,some questions and criticism are also mentioned.
