Traditional Chinese paintings have a long history, broad and profound for their significance. Among them, the freehand or impressionistic brushwork of flowers and birds, which experienced ups and downs for their historical accumulation, has become an independent painting style of far-reaching influence for its rich aesthetic charm and complete brush-ink techniques. The artistic pursuit of the impressionistic painting has played a positive role at all stages of the painting history, and has become the core expression of Chinese artistic characteristics. For fine arts education in China's universities, the impressionistic flower-bird painting has become the indispensable important component in Chinese painting training. Therefore, it is for now of a very positive practical significance to conduct research in the impressionistic flower-bird painting training. On one hand, it helps us carry out, from the "training" point of view, a rational analysis, objective evaluation, and in-depth study in order to further improve the training quality. On the other hand, it is also helpful for us, from "learning" point of view, to identify problems, seek solutions so as to enable students to achieve the best learning effect with the least effort. Taking into full consideration of the research will enable us to discover and solve problems while constantly reflecting on our training experience, thus improving the training. At the same time, the students, in the continuous improvement of training activities, will benefit from enhanced professional knowledge and painting skills, and their initiative motivation is beneficial to the cultivation of their independent thinking and innovative spirit. For the current painting training, we must further emancipate and change minds, and fully improve the instruction by driving home the interactive benign effect of the theoretical knowledge and skill practice. With the flower-bird painting training in university painting specialty as a starting point, this paper discusses dialectically and analytically the interactive relations between the artistical features of flower-bird paintings, expressive techniques, brush-ink skills one the one hand, and the performance of teachers and students in the specialty training process, instruction research, evaluation of the training effect on the other. With what the writer saw, heard, taught, thought, felt and realized in his teaching experience of over ten years, he has worked hard to avoid the textbook-typed bookish way of instruction for impressionistic brushwork of flower-bird, while he has gone all out to study approaches, theory and teaching methods related with fine arts training in pedagogy of education. Thus he meant this paper to be useful for its realistic substance. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter dwells upon the current situation of flower-bird painting training for college students of fine arts. Positioning analysis is given to the three respects of learning situation, trainers and learners, as related to the curriculum. The second chapter studies the flower-bird painting instruction. Thorough research is on the four instruction aspects of impressionistic flower-bird paintings:cognition, copying, sketching and creation, so as to throw light on the analysis of each aspect:the instruction sense, learning rules and methods, and the problems students should pay attention to. The third chapter discusses several relations for improving the instruction of impressionistic flower-bird brushwork. For example, how to deal with the relation between classroom instruction and off-class learning, the selection of training materials and training content, flower-bird painting and other courses, instruction methods and means, effect and evaluation, etc.. And the study of these relations leads, in turn, to the analysis of the current problems and the solutions in the training programs. The fourth chapter offers a picture for the impressionistic flower-bird painting curriculum. The writer offers bold visions and positive suggestions on the class performance of the teachers, the comprehensive learning of the students, the training modes and other relevant aspects beneficial both to the teachers and learners.Impressionistic flower-and-bird painting is a course students of Chinese painting must face up to. This paper offers reflection and analysis on the long-term fine arts teaching practice at colleges, which are enhanced by adequate illustrated examples and discussions. The writer tries to initiate further attention from fine arts educators and concerned experts upon the rational development of major course instruction. At such orderly process of fine arts education, the college students will in time grow up to be workers or educators of fine arts who are endowed with broad cultural vision, high artistic accomplishment and aesthetic level, innovation ability, and who will bear the mission to inherit the outstanding cultural and art, and will eventually contribute to the overall enhancement of specialty fine arts education.
