With the development of international sports events and booming sports industry in China,it is of great importance for the language-support staff to master both language and expertise of sports.However,due to the fact that Sports English Major was established in 2002,the sports English curriculum and pedagogic enjoys its own traits and flaws.Currently,to some extent,the curriculum and acquisition failed to meet the needs from corporations or institutions.In this paper,the study distributes questionnaires to students,who major in Sports English,then recycles and adopts the methods of literature to analyze the recycled questionnaires.The author analyzed the necessity for Sports English major based on the ESP theory,the traits of New Media,combining the advantage of both New Media and Sports English learning strategy,thereby creating a prototype of Sports English Learning Application(APP).Then a nine-day experiment was carried out to compare the learning efficiency and self-efficiency for group 1(using APP)and group 2(simulating classroom learning).The study shows that in order to foster qualified intellectuals with expertise of different areas,the sports universities currently position the Sports English Major as a wide occupation spectrum,with inadequate guide from teachers of knowledge and skills aiming at the related occupation.Due to the limitation of one-versus-many classroom teaching situation,amount of time for teaching and monitoring the learning status of student is inadequate.As new media has become an indispensable part for students,taking advantage of these means,Sports English can be tailored with the needs of the society and personal interest,thereby creating a practice-oriented adaptive learning approach.Results of the experiment show that in terms of the learning efficiency,compared with group 2,group 1 improved the learning efficiency to a certain extent,and the knowledge forgetting rate is relatively low;In terms of self-efficacy,compared with long-term learning with few feedbacks,group 1 believed setting goals and receiving positive feedbacks among shorter period of time in the process of acquiring knowledge.With continuous positive feedback,they received the satisfaction of learning outcomes.They provided feedback that integrates advantage of both education and new media makes up the lack of classroom teaching,namely such traits as interactive experience,instant feedback,and elements of games,students-oriented purpose and small amount of learning tasks.
