In March 2016, the Chinese Medical Association Kidney Disease Branch announced that kidney disease has becoming a serious disease that posed as a threat to children’s health. To date, more than two million children in China have kidney disease, and the number of children with chronic renal failure is increasing at an annual rate of 13%. Kidney disease as a chronic disease, need to be hospitalized repeatedly for treatment, and for children, hospitalization might not be a good experience. As children are not well understand the kidney disease and the death, and they are vulnerable to negative emotions, and thereby do not cooperate with medical care service provider. To meet the needs of sick children, their parents should most probably be their supporters, yet still difficulties ahead. However, because the parents are difficult in the knowledge structure, communication method, psychological feelings, economic pressure and so on ,therefore, they need to get help from the outside world, which also includes social workers and social work knowledge helping. In this paper, a case study of "children’s game service for sick children during their hospitalization" provided by the Right To Play supported by the kidney department of children’s hospital in the City N was carried out. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the parents with children that have kidney disease in this hospital, and the survey was about their family ties. The results related to the parents indicated that (1) because their not familiar with the processes carried out by the hospital, and they share poor communication with health care workers, and thereby resulting in doctor-patient contradictions; 2) and because their lack of basic knowledge of the kidney disease and the associated health care knowledge, they may have difficulty in understanding the explanation of the children’s’ health conditions and they may be poorly enrolled in their children’s’ treatment; 3) economic pressure on parents from poor families due to high treatment costs can be high; 4) due to their children’s illness, they might be nervous, irritable, and have anxiety and other physical or psychological unhealthy status; 5) long-term hospitalization may lead to the depression of the children, and further lead to the disharmony of their family ties. Thus, parents play key roles during the treatment of the sick children, and they are in urgent need of support from social work service providers.Based on the above problems, what can social workers do? What are the corresponding needs of parents?According to the surveys, the needs from the parents can be characterized as follows: they are longing for the improvement of the mentality of their children, the nursing skills, the parent-child relationships, and doctor-patient relationships. The hospital has carried out numerous case or group studies to solve the anxiety of the parents themselves, and doctor-patient or parent-child contradictions.Furthermore, medical social workers helped seeking helps from social associations, such as Red Cross or crowd funding and they helped the establishment of long-term volunteer team and external support. the families of children to. The above professional services have achieved good feed backs and we may reasonably conclude that social work services helped the children with kidney disease greatly.
