With the development and progress of society,exchanges and cooperation between countries in the world are increasing.In order to successfully achieve communicative purposes,non-native speakers of English must not only have a solid knowledge of foreign languages,but also have corresponding pragmatic competence,be able to properly express their intentions,accurately understand each other's words according to the context,and be effective.Avoid pragmatic mistakes.Cultivating students' pragmatic competence is the main task in foreign language teaching in China.Looking back at the history of foreign language teaching in China,it is not difficult to see that people are too focused on cultivating students' language skills,while ignoring students' pragmatic competence.It is reflected in the student's comprehensive language ability that the development of language ability and pragmatic ability is unbalanced.Students can often speak grammatically correct sentences but fail to achieve the desired communicative purpose in real communication.From the perspective of pragmatics,the purpose of this article is to analyze the causes of mistakes.The purpose is to deepen the understanding and understanding of this issue,to avoid such mistakes in the actual communication process,so that the communicators are guided by the principles of theory and practice.Promote the smooth progress of cross-cultural communication.In order to achieve the purpose of the study,the paper investigated the phenomenon of pragmatic failure in cross-cultural communication among senior high school students through questionnaires,analyzed the root causes of pragmatic failures and its implications for English teaching as a foreign language,and elaborated on foreign languages.How to Cultivate Students' Pragmatic Competence in Teaching.In order to seek effective verbal communication,avoid or reduce pragmatic failures.
