The period of social transition has witnessed the coming of a large quantity of news concerning social conflicts and clashes. The news media, buried in the torrent of information for a long time, yearns for taking a share both in their field and interdisciplinary ones. Meanwhile, changes which have taken place in environment of news communication also intensify those in news style. Under the background of media marketization, the Internet, taking the share of traditional media, is quite prevailing. Due to its disadvantages in speed and carrier, newspaper has to change the narrative mode to attract readers and to cope with the attacks from shallow reading, so as to realize their value of spreading. Although feature has been wondering on the edge of news reports, its fine brushwork and profound expression, after decades of accumulation, soon aroused the memory of media and readers. Feature takes the opportunity to set issues and guide values from the individual perspective, telling stories in a way exclusive to feature.As the founder of domestic feature, Freezing Point feature in China Youth Daily has produced lots of classical reports. Under the predomination of new media, Freezing Point is to take the responsibility to revitalize the domestic feature. It also explores the narrative skill and meaning construction concerning the feature writing. Based on the classic and post-classic narrative theory, this paper takes qualitative and quantitative approaches, and summarizes narrative features of Freezing Point in the past decade from 2006 to 2015. It probes into the well-established values and the changeable thinking tracks. It further causes analysis in narrative mode. At last, it rethinks the current problems which still exist in feature narration, and provides some advice to solve problems in narration.This paper consists of five parts. The introduction briefly reviews the origin and development of western feature, and defines the research object. It reduces the research scope to Freezing Point in China Youth Daily·Freezing Point. It teases out the status quo of narratology and feature, and sums up the research methods and innovations. The first chapter analyzes the narrative mode of Freezing Point in specific text. To be more specific, it focuses on the features of narrative perspective, narrative time and narrative voice, analyzing the narrative structure at different levels ranging from “basic” one to “deep” one. Based on these researches, this chapter probes into narrative meaning and summarizes narrative frameworks of several specialized reports according to the analysis of specific reports. The second chapter parses the narrative mode and causes of utterance meaning of Freezing Point from both internal and external, mirco and marco aspects. This chapter also summarizes the influences of feature style on Freezing Point narration. Based on the above-mentioned researches of narrative feature and cause, the third chapter traces deficiencies of feature narration, and proposes some suggestions on the future writing from the aspects of objectivity, creativity and writing promotion. The fourth chapter sets feature narration into the internet context, and interprets the numerous crises facing the paper media. It is also expected here that feature writing will come to its turning point relying on its advantages in content.In order to seek out the merits and demerits of feature narration and to provide certain reference to this particular style in the field, this paper discusses the development of Freezing Point feature from the perspective of narration, and then makes a summary of its narrative rules. In addition, parsing the distinguish features of issues setting and meaning construction will enlighten the mainstream media in guiding the values of each audience and even the whole society.
