The technology of image fusion with multi spectral images is widely used in military, civil, medical, remote sensing and other fields. And the FPGA also has irreplaceable advantages in image processing field. So in this dissertation, a research has been made on the image fusion with polarization and multi spectral images based on FPGA.First of all, this paper expounds the background and significance of this study, the research status at home and abroad, and the work of this paper. Then the image fusion system based on FPGA is introduced in detail, including front-end optical detection system, image processing system and back-end display system. After that, this paper discusses the characteristics of polarization and spectral images, and expounds several common image fusion algorithms, which are based on LAP, DWT, NSCT and PCNN. Based on these, this paper proposes a fusion algorithm based on edge information and support value transform. It uses the technology of edge detection to extract the edge information of source images and SVT as multiresolution transform. According to different features of different frequency, we take different fusion strategies. And the fused image is recovered by using the inverse support value transform. This paper also designs an image fusion simulation platform based on Matlab GUI. Using this simulation platform, this paper presents a comparison between the proposed fusion algorithm and several common fusion algorithms, and gives the analysis of the experimental results. The experiments and results demonstrate that the fused image which uses the algorithm presented in this paper has the advantage of better visual effect. It has preserved the detailed information effectively and has extracted more edge information from source images. In the end of this paper, the hardware implementation of the image fusion algorithm based on edge information and support value transform is introduced. The functional modules are designed and implemented. Several experiments are carried out. The experimental results show that the fusion image is very good and the useful information of the two original images is fused, the target is prominent and the contour edge is clear.
