Hechi is the key development region with the strategy of "west development" in China. In recent years, under the leadership and support of the party and the state, the process of urbanization of the city has been accelerated; the socio-economic level has been continuously enhanced; the transportation and other infrastructures have been improved year by year. The concentration of the whole city area and its attraction/absorption function have also been intensified, which has caused tensions between people and land. It has seriously affected the sustainable development of regional land-use system and the dynamic stability of social economy. “Rational exploitation and utilization of land resources, optimization of land-use structure and spatial layout, and a constant improvement of the efficiency of land-use to guarantee land use for expedited economic development” have become an important issue to address for the current and future land-use cases in Hechi in years to come.Based on annual land-use change survey data of Hechi city in the second national land investigation, using information entropy model, coefficient of variation TOPSIS model and grey relational model, the paper aims to study the changes of land-use structure and land-use efficiency and to reveal the relationship between land-use structure and land-use efficiency in Hechi city in recent years, and to look into the characteristics and mechanisms of land-use system during the rapid development of Hechi city. The results show that, first, the change of land-use structure is a dynamic and gradual development process, which is influenced and restricted by multiple factors; second, along with the adjustment of land use structure, changes of regional land use efficiency are also witnessed; third, there is a strong correlation between the regional land-use structure and the land-use efficiency, among which the urban village and industrial and mining lands are most related to the land-use efficiency of Hechi city. The results of this study can provide scientific reference to the regional land-use structure optimization and sustainable utilization. It can give advice to the national policy formulation, especially when the decision is about the land-use policy-making for the less developed regions in the west.
