Over the past couple of years, the Polish video game industry experienced a period of rapid growth.Polish game-dev companies increase investment in the sector with each passing day, being able to compete with the biggest international game-dev studios.Simultaneously, the Polish games market is also growing steadily, while Polish game-dev companies are taking the position of market leaders, while Polish video games enjoy critical acclaim from gamers all around the world – CD Projekt RED's newly released installment in the Witcher series remains the most popular game on the market, having gathered an audience of 7 million players, and still selling as we speak. Our analysis starts with the history of the Polish video game industry, which directly impacted the industry's current state. When Polish companies finally got the chance to enter the global games market, many foreign game-dev companies already had an established and significant position on the market, therefore only the best and most efficient Polish companies could compete on the global games market to begin with.Over the course of years,Polish companies also learned that the most beneficial way of financing their projects is their own investment, rather than searching for investors within the industry,or publishers, who would later claim most of the profits from game sales for themselves. Finally, according to the authors of the State of the Polish Video Games Sector, the key to success of the Polish game-dev companies is the employment of the principle of specialization.Companies which specialize in a particular category of games manage to achieve greater profits than others. On the other hand though,it ought to be noted that Polish game-dev companies are constantly facing many difficulties. The most significant problem is,of course, the widespread piracy – a phenomenon existing on all games markets. What is more, according to the results of the Polish GameDev 2015 survey, many Polish game-dev companies suggest non-sufficient support from the Polish government authorities.Such support is especially crucial for the steady development of the industry, since companies are already facing problems finding qualified employees. The government's support in education could help solve the problem in the long run,by promoting game-dev education among Polish higher education institutions.
