The automobile industry,as an important pillar industry in China, plays a leading role in development of Chinese economic.Auto industry not only has a strong driving effect for its upstream and downstream industry development, but also solve a large number of employment problems. Therefore, under the perspective of macroeconomic development and social employment, the automobile industry has become China's macroeconomic"stabilizer".In the context of economic globalization, the internationalization of China's auto market has been deepened, attracting a large number of foreign investment in China to set up factories and importation of auto industry-related products, which has a great impact on China's domestic auto industry. As a technology-intensive industries, the technical level of the automotive industry determines the market share. So,for the development of local auto companies in China, whether it,the introduction of high-tech level of foreign investment and the importation of automotive products, will promote the local industry technological progress and improve its market share is the focus of this paper, which has a positive practical significance for China's auto industry's healthy development in the future. This paper use the research methods of the combination of theory and empirical methods.First of all, through the theoretical analysis,we discuss the mechanism of foreign knowledge spillovers and the impact of absorption capacity's three aspects on foreign knowledge spillovers.According to the theoretical analysis we establish the empirical models.Secondly, taking China's automobile industry as the research object, this paper analyzes the influence of international knowledge spillovers and innovation abilities on the technological progress of China's automobile industry. The time series model of the automobile industry is established by selecting the industry data of the automobile industry from 1998 to 2015 in the Yearbook of Automobile Industry in China. The stationarity of the data is verified by the ADF unit root test, and the data are processed by differential measurement.Through co-integration test we analyze the long-term correlation between variables, and through the error correction model we verify the short-term interaction between the variables. Finally through the OLS model regression analysis,we obtain the correlation between the variables. It is found that the international knowledge spillover mainly affects the Chinese auto companies through FDI channels and import channels. The spillover effect of FDI is negative and the spillover effect of import is positive. The absorptive capacity is not consistent with the effect of the international knowledge spillover. The technical gap has the effect of inhibition, while the research manpower and the capital investment has the effect of promotion. The absorption effect measured by the technology gap has are "U"influence on the spillover effect of the FDI and the import channel. That is,with the increasing absorptive capacity, when the absorption capacity exceeds the critical point, the effect of international knowledge spillovers will be enhanced, which will have a significant positive impact on the technological growth of China's automobile industry. Therefore,we should increase the technical investment of domestic enterprises, reduce the technical gap between domestic and foreign enterprises and improve the absorptive capacity of international knowledge. Finally,it is suggested that the key to the technological progress of China's automobile industry is to excavate and cultivate the internal power, rather than relying on the effect of import and FDI spillover. The transformation from imitation learning to independent innovation is the inevitable choice of the technological progress path of China's automobile industry.
