Under the background of "The Belt and Road" initiatives,companies contracting international engineering need to position their market and improve their competitiveness.The implementation of the initiatives will change the contracting mode of these companies and their development direction.Yunnan,as the rim land and radial center of opening up,will drive large-scale construction companies to go out.No.14 Metallurgical Construction Company of China Nonferrous Metal Industry(No.14 MCC),an old state-owner construction company,plays an important role in the construction industry of Yunnan Province.As the target market of No.14 MCC,Laos' geographical relationship,politics,economics and culture and that of Yunnan Province have something in common.In order to accelerate international development of Yunnan construction companies,No.14 MCC choose Laos' market to explore international market and improve its competitiveness.The author analyzes Laos' international engineering contracting conditions by using literature research method,interviewing method,PEST and SWOT,taking Laos Hongsa Mine-Mouths Power Station Project as an example.The Laos international construction market characters will be concretized.The author analyzes major problems existing in market exploration in Laos and proposes practical suggestions combining with the system construction and business model of the company.Researches show that firstly,political situation in Laos is stable and the economy grows well.China-Laos trade grows rapidly.However,it also has some adverse factors,such as financial deficit,exchange risk and labor shortage.Secondly,Laos'stable economic development brings prosperous construction industry,but its market competition is fierce and its project scale is small.Thirdly,No.14 MCC'competitiveness in Laos' international project bidding is weak,which is due to low recognition,shortage of financing and information as well as low capacity of construction and insufficient high-end intellectual talents.Based on the problems existing in market exploration in Laos,the author proposes two plans,broaden the territory and project scope,make the business advantage bigger and stronger.Strengthen the recognition of No.14MCC in Laos market.Broaden the financing channels to reduce the difficulty of the financing.Establish internal information database.The establishment of Joint Venture Company will improve the successful rate of project bidding as well as improve the ability of construction.Fully understand the importance of high-end core management and technical personnel.Highlight the market management work;increase the intensity of market exploitation.Comply with the development trend of international engineering contracting.Adopt investment + construction mode.Build the company's risk prevention and control system.Follow the group's investment pace for policy and financial support.Maintain good partnership and Laos market share.Yunnan provincial construction enterprises play an increasingly important role in international project contracting market.How to better explore the international project contracting market is also a research focus of scholars in recent years.Laos and Yunnan are the less developed areas and play a part in "The Belt and Road"initiatives.The combination of this research will make up the shortfall in international project contracting market research field for Chinese enterprises and enrich the research contents of Chinese construction enterprises "going out".
